One of the largest challenges facing pension funds in South Africa, and across the world, is that of member education and outreach – particularly to members with low levels of financial literacy who live in rural areas. As an administration agency, the GPAA takes this aspect of its work very seriously, as is clear in the award-winning communication strategies and plans that it has implemented for its customers1. Through initiatives such as those discussed on the following pages, the GPAA is able to provide its customers with the tools to allow them to have a meaningful impact on the lives of their members, pensioners and beneficiaries.
